“Jesus is not ONE OF MANY WAYS to approach God, nor is THE BEST OF SEVERAL WAYS ; He is the ONLY WAY.”
The GREATEST QUESTION EVER ASKED
WHO IS JESUS?
Jesus… Liar, Lunatic, or Lord?
Jesus Christ is one of the most well-known figures in history. Most people agree that Jesus really lived over 2,000 years ago in Israel. But who He truly was is where the debate begins. Some say Jesus was a prophet, a great teacher, or a godly man. But the Bible teaches us that Jesus was much more than that.
C.S. Lewis, a famous author, explained it like this: Some people say they like Jesus as a teacher but don’t believe He was God. Lewis argues that you can’t think of Jesus like that. If Jesus claimed to be God but wasn’t, He would either be crazy or a liar—not a good teacher. But if Jesus was telling the truth, then He really is God, and we need to decide how we’ll respond to Him.
Jesus Claimed to Be God
Jesus wasn’t just a man; He claimed to be God. In the Bible, He said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). The people around Him knew exactly what He meant. They tried to kill Him because they thought He was lying about being God (John 10:33). Jesus didn’t correct them because He was claiming to be equal with God.
In another moment, Jesus said, “Before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58). This wasn’t just a weird way of talking. “I AM” was the name God used for Himself in the Old Testament (Exodus 3:14), and Jesus was using it for Himself to show that He existed before anyone else and that He was God.
The Bible Calls Jesus God
There are many other places in the Bible that show Jesus is God:
John 1:1 says, “The Word was God,” and John 1:14 adds, “The Word became flesh,” meaning Jesus was God who became human.
One of Jesus’ disciples, Thomas, called Him “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28), and Jesus didn’t correct him.
Other apostles like Paul and Peter also called Jesus “God” (Titus 2:13, 2 Peter 1:1).
Even God the Father, in Hebrews 1:8, calls Jesus “God.”
There are also prophecies in the Old Testament, like Isaiah 9:6, that predicted the Messiah (Jesus) would be called “Mighty God.”
Why does it matter if Jesus is God?
Why is it important to believe Jesus is God? Here are some key reasons:
If Jesus isn’t God, then He would be lying about who He is, and we couldn’t trust Him.
Only God could live a perfect life and be the sacrifice for our sins. If Jesus were just a man, He wouldn’t be able to save us.
Jesus had to be both fully God and fully human. As a man, He could die for our sins. As God, He had the power to conquer sin and death forever.
The Bible says salvation (being saved from sin) is only possible through Jesus. Jesus Himself said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
